Before you create that new tag, stop and consider the following: Note: The example questions used here are intentionally basic and should not be taken as a guideline for what is appropriate to ask on the site. 1. Is this a useful way to categorize the question? For example, if your question is "Why do rockets sometimes explode?", then rockets and ...

Yes, all of the law tags should just be law. Fundamentally, this isn't a site about law, and drawing any distinction between the various possibilities of law isn't going to bring a person here or not. Fundamentally, this is a site about space, and unless the word "space" is required to make sense of the word (space-junk, for instance), then it should be ...

Because the title question leads with "How is our tagging situation?" I'm going to start by addressing number 3. If you'd like to skip the detailed breakdown, feel free to jump down to the Comparison Summary heading. How does our current tagging situation compare to similar sites like Astronomy SE? I only use the status-completed tag on a discussion if there is some mod action required, and really only on tag questions pretty much. All it means is that the mod action has been completed. I recently removed the poorly conceived tag small from a question because I wasn't sure if they meant for it to refer to smallsats or small rockets, but it did cross my mind that it might be useful to have a smallsat tag. Something as a catch-all so that we don't have to create tags for all the individual categories aside from cubesats unless we actually ...

Here's a quick inventory of the current tagging status of multi-mission space programs: Manned Mercury: "project-mercury" Gemini: "project-gemini" Apollo: "apollo-program" + individual tags for Apollo 10-17 and Apollo-Soyuz Space Shuttle: "space-shuttle" + the individual orbiters "shuttle-columbia", "...

That tag name makes sense to me. Maybe "uae-hope" could be a synonym.

The flipside here is called burnination, where the community removes tags. It's worth reading what the overall methodology is, but you should pay attention that tags must be clear We recently reversed a tag synonym because [neo] was potentially vague. I've seen that happen a lot, where a tag goes with an acronym or simple name, and thus you wind up with ...
